Stamps celebrating the achievements of Canadian Women in Winter Sports

Part of a special Canada 150 stamp issue marking momentous events in Canada’s evolution over the past 50 years, this stamp celebrates the passing of federal legislation that gave Canadians the right to marry the one they love.

In 2003, after decades of legal challenges, victories and setbacks, Ontario became the third jurisdiction in the world to legally recognize same-sex marriage, followed by the other provinces. Finally, on July 20, 2005, the Civil Marriage Act became law, making Canada the fourth country in the world and the first outside Europe to achieve marriage equality by eliminating discriminatory restrictions on marriage rights.
